Botox

No matter your age or gender, fine lines, and wrinkles can become a pain when you try to express yourself. Drooping eyelids, severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines lead to a seemingly older, more tired, or angrier appearance than you may feel. For over 2 decades, healthcare professionals have been using Botox to help people look more youthful with smoother complexions thanks to its revolutionary formula. Here’s how First State Med Spa can help you look younger in pictures and the mirror with once-quarterly Botox injections:

What is Botox?

Botox is the most well-known brand name of a formula with the active ingredient of a botulinum toxin product, a neuromodulator that inhibits the nerve signals emitted by the nervous system around the injection site. Botox, or the botulinum toxin has been used for many years both for cosmetic treatment and medical purposes to improve certain disorders or health conditions.

Botox doesn’t completely paralyze the muscle in the areas it’s injected into, but rather dampens the nerve endings in the treatment area, reducing the number of facial wrinkles, forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines on the surface of the skin.

What Conditions Can Botox Treat?

As mentioned, Botox treats so-called dynamic wrinkles, or wrinkles that appear when your facial muscles contract or expand. These are different from wrinkles or folds that appear due to age and volume loss.

Botox is best known for treating the following conditions:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Glabellar lines (also called 11 lines or frown lines between the brows)
  • Forehead lines
  • Smile lines around the mouth
  • Puckered chin creases
  • Droopy eyelids

Botox is a precision formula, meaning it requires specific, small doses of the substance to create the ideal effect. Patients may need a few rounds of botulinum toxin injections, and actual patients with optimal results trust only a certified healthcare provider, like the physicians and trained injectors at First State Med Spa with their Botox treatment.

The Botox Procedure

When you arrive for your first Botox consultation, you’ll receive a clinical evaluation by our staff and provide your medical history along with any medical conditions. They will then recommend the appropriate number of sessions, and botulinum toxin type, and answer any questions regarding treatments.

For Botox injections, you’ll have the option of receiving a topical numbing agent to make this nearly painless procedure even more tolerable, otherwise, you’ll simply receive the injections in the desired areas. Once the procedure is over, First State Med Spa will explain how to care for your injection sites, what to avoid doing – such as strenuous exercise – and for how long the aforementioned rest should ensue for optimal results.

Results and Recovery from Botox

There is no downtime required following a Botox cosmetic procedure, which is part of what makes it such an appealing procedure for so many of our patients. The most common side effects are minimal and usually consist of mild swelling or bruising along with mild pain at the Botox injection site. Be sure to note any serious side effects or unusual allergic reactions. Tell First State about any prescription medicine you are taking before the procedure.

Botox usually takes effect within a week or two and lasts for up to four months. Most patients schedule regular touch-up appointments every few months according to their provider’s recommendations to continue enjoying their smoother, more youthful complexion.
