Xeomin & Letybo

When you look in the mirror, are you starting to notice lines between your brows, across your forehead, or at the corners of your eyes? These are common facial lines that many people seek to address. If so, it may be time to consider a neuromodulator injectable, such as Xeomin or Letybo, which are types of botulinum toxin products. At First State MedSpa, we offer a selection of treatment options to meet your individual needs and aesthetic goals.

What are Xeomin® & Letybo® Botulinum Toxin Treatments?

There are a number of different injectable treatments available on the market today. One of the most common types is the neuromodulator, including Xeomin®, Letybo®, and Botox®. These products all contain botulinum toxin type A, which smooths dynamic wrinkles, the lines that form from repeated facial movements, by reducing muscle activity and blocking muscle contractions.

So, what is the main difference between these products? The main distinction lies in their formulation. Xeomin is known as a “naked” neurotoxin because it is purified to remove accessory proteins. Letybo (letibotulinumtoxinA-wlbg) is a 900 kDa toxin complex supplied with human albumin. Formulation can influence how a product spreads, the dosage used, and how quickly results appear. It is important to know exactly which product is being used, as each may have different properties, safety profiles, and considerations.

Before starting treatment with Xeomin, Letybo, or any other botulinum toxin product, patients should inform their provider about any medical conditions and any new medicines they are taking.

What Areas Can Xeomin and Letybo Treat?

The most common neuromodulator treatment areas include:

  • Glabellar lines, also called frown lines

  • Crow’s feet

  • Forehead lines and creases

  • Corners of the mouth

  • A “cobblestoned” appearance on the chin

Letybo is FDA-approved for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe glabellar lines in adults. Other areas are treated at the provider’s discretion. The number of units used and the specific treatment plan depend on the area being treated and the patient’s desired results.

What to Expect During Treatment

Treatment is fairly quick and straightforward. Before injection, the treatment site is cleansed, and a topical numbing cream may be applied if desired. The neuromodulator of your choice is then injected into the planned site(s) with a thin syringe. Treatment typically takes about 15-20 minutes.

Recovery and Results

You can return to your regular activities right after treatment. We recommend avoiding exercise and other strenuous activity for the rest of the day. Mild swelling, redness, and bruising at the injection site are normal and should fade with time.

Xeomin results usually become noticeable within 3-4 days and can last up to 3-4 months. Letybo may start to work as early as day 1 and typically within 3 days. In clinical data, the average time to re-treatment was approximately 4 months.

Who is a Candidate for Xeomin or Letybo?

Candidates for Xeomin and Letybo are typically healthy adults seeking to reduce the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar frown lines, the vertical lines between the eyebrows that appear when frowning. Ideal candidates should not have a history of allergic reactions to botulinum toxin products or to any ingredients in the formulations.

Tell your provider if you have any history of breathing problems, neuromuscular conditions, or a skin infection at the planned injection site, as these may affect your safety or results. Individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a history of severe allergic reactions may not be suitable for Xeomin or Letybo injections. Always consult with a qualified provider to determine which option is safest and most effective for your goals.

Side Effects and Interactions

Xeomin and Letybo are FDA-approved and widely used to treat moderate to severe facial lines. The most common side effects include mild injection site pain, redness, swelling, bruising, and tenderness. Some individuals may also experience headache or drooping eyelids after treatment.

Although these side effects are generally temporary and resolve on their own, botulinum toxin products can occasionally cause more significant reactions. Rarely, patients may develop muscle weakness, blurred vision, or swallowing problems.

If you notice any unusual symptoms after treatment, especially trouble breathing, blurred vision, or significant muscle weakness, seek medical help immediately. Open communication with your provider and a thorough review of your medical history can help ensure your treatment is both safe and effective.
